Jaeger-LeCoultre Memovox Alarm Tribute to Polaris Limited Edition
Excellent to Like New with box and papers.
Introduced in 2008 Jaeger-LeCoultre presented this new limited edition model as a tribute to one of the greatest 20th century sports watches - the legendary Memovox Polaris that joined the horology world in the 1960s. The initial Memovax Polaris watches developed for divers enjoyed great success, having incorporated innovative alarm mechanisms.
New Jaeger-LeCoultre Memovox Tribute to Polaris watches have inherited the distinctive design, energetic lines and spirit of performance of the original Memovox Polaris of 1965, and the Memovox Polaris of 1968. The 42mm case demonstrates a luxurious polish.
It is unique in that it has 3 crowns: the first crown is necessary for setting the alarm, the second for winding the watch and setting the time, while the third allows to govern the internal rotating bezel.
The vintage-inspired matte-finished black dial is completed with wedge-shaped luminous hour markers. The central rotating section of the dial indicates the setting of the alarm mechanism, in coordination with the arrow. You will notice the date display at 3 o'clock.
The Jaeger-LeCoultre Memovox Tribute to Polaris watch has accommodated a Jaeger-LeCoultre in-house movement - the Calibre 956, entirely crafted, assembled and decorated by hand. The 7.45mm-thick 23-jewel self-winding movement, composed of 268 parts, incorporates a balance wheel alternating 28,800 times per hour. The central winding rotor is placed on ceramic bearings, requiring no lubrication. The movement offers 45-hour power reserve.
A unique feature of the Calibre 956 is the alarm mechanism, with a hanging gong system able to generate optimal volume of sound. The movement is protected beneath a one-of-a-kind double-case-back system guaranteeing 200-meter water resistance.
The engraved outer case-back is based on a system of 16 holes, a characteristic of the original Memovox Polaris watch. The system is used for enhancing the acoustic performance of the gong when the timepiece is pressed against a diving wetsuit.
The new Jaeger-LeCoultre Memovox Tribute to Polaris watch has a convex crystal produced from a synthetic material, with profile matching the one of their 1960s predecessors. On a patterned leather strap fitted with a pin-style buckle in stainless steel.
The stainless steel Memovox Tribute to Polaris 1968 watch with slender baton-shaped hands is being created in a limited edition of 768 pieces.
